UPDATE #2:
Actually I am going to address a few things in the comments.
- This is my (Titanium’s) fault. I tried to enable the Favorites extension. It apparently conflicted with the scoring system. Then one of the disks failed. I honestly don’t know why it screwed things up so royally, but it did. The disk is rebuilt, but that error remains and apparently it’s more involved than just unchecking the Favorites box. Wiiaboo and others are working to fix it.
- This is not related to money issues. The extra ads have taken care of that.
- This was not a hack or other attack.
- We aren’t moving to TPB afaik
- The site won’t turn into OhInternet (or will it… muwahahahaha)
- Your comments don’t appear right away because the blog things 99% are spam. I will go through daily and approve non-spam comments.
UPDATE #3:
A few of you have mentioned the Tweet I (Titanium) posted on July 5th. Based on the info I had then, I thought it would only be a day. We thought that after the disk was fixed, the error would be easy to resolve. It wasn’t/isn’t. We are getting closer. Please be patient.
In other news, this is a conspiracy to get more users on rule63 and cosplay and to weed out the unfaithful. The site will run faster with less people… </sarcasm>

The problem may be related to the database. In shimmie, when you activate the Favorites extension, it creates the user_favorites table and adds a column called favorites to the images table. When you deactivate, by unchecking the box, it does not appear to remove the table or column, it just stops using them.
So the user_favorites and numeric_score_votes tables both exist in the database. Also the two columns in the image table. I don’t see offhand why that would cause a problem, but I suggest investigating that area.

The site has had its issues yes; it has had a few images I noticed against your rules yes, but I dont agree with the one Troll who said to just let it die. If you have troubles finding willing admins I have some spare time in making my comics (non erotic need mind you I go to rule 34 to feed the pervert in me when I get stuck doing non erotic work for an ridiculous amount of time) and can spend a little effort to report some images I believe are not in the best interest of Rule 34 to host.
Another thing I think would help the site is if you separate some category like Lolly(the part that is allowed if at all) Goro (sometimes called vore very grafic bloody porn) and Transgender (dickgirls exc does not include Genderbending) into an slightly “more offensive porn category’ (given a better name of course like filtered porn as most other sites filter them.) and give it its own site. lets face it in the pron universe there is an alarming amount of dickgirls I think its about time they got their own rule. This would relive some stress on the site and a posting restriction on size would help images load quicker.
It is entirely possibly to have a 8.5×11 in image that is at 600dpi; the image doesn’t have to be 600dpi if it is going to be posted on the internet coping images to a reasonable size would help with more then bandwidth and could help with the site stress oversize images give it.
There are simple solutions to these problems Like for instance the one troll image CGed Dick on Mandark does not a porn make, even if it was a humorously fail image (it was still blatant plagiarism and trolling to an extent), why not just remove it entirely after a small period of time?
The celebrity fakes and whatnot porn of that kind probably deserve their own rule too too many CGed porn on rule 34 I think it needs to find its own home eventually.
basically put if it wen’t for people like the troll that said let it die the admins would probably have more then enough time to do all this and improve the sire and web ring. he gives the rest of us Anonymous posters a bad reputation anyhow! we really will not miss the likes of him.

In a way, I’m actually happy the site went down. For the reason that; when it gets back up and running (which it will) we’ll have an explosion of images. The artists behind Rule 34 will have time to crack up some really good images, and hopefully make comics.

^i’m not sure what Anon is talking about, but its something to consider. finding a way to back-up(as ED had) or funeral-proof the contents, so if site does go down stuff can easily be transferred to a new site and seeded there to start regrowth. as that is the cycle of the internet, and likely what will continue happening with this modern PoliticalCorrectness & internet freedom issues.
“Kyone” has good points, except for the limiting of pic size. TERRIBLE IDEA!!! replacing and keeping dupes with highest resolution is one of the best commonly practiced concepts on this site. the bigger the size/rez the better, its not like original pics are regularly uploaded at ridiculous sizes by their artists. as as computer standards advance, better quality will only gain importance. this site’s know for quality art images and funny images, if we limit the size we take away half of its strength.
some people have been suggesting splitting the site up more into different sections. but this site uses a different system(albeit-simple) than the rest, plus EVERY other site already does that, and sites like 4chan have just gotten ridiculous with categorizing. it this site starts it will become just like the rest. Plus wouldn’t making more sites change just the way its organized only, and not solve most of the server/bandwidth/money issues, if not worsen them?
(you semi-filter it yourself by adding search tags) part of the greatness of this site is seeing a mix of stuff including stumbling through unexpected or shocking stuff you weren’t looking for. the more we over-categorize, the less chance this has of happening.
as far as the ‘offensive’ content goes, i question how long it will be able to remain around for. if we get rid of anything i’m all for dropping the Gore and putting the space to better use. (a little blood or violence is one thing, but gore is a totally different category)
thought i don’t particularly care for them, Loli, Shota, incest and Futa/Dickgirls you’ve gotta keep for the time being simply for the sake of the integrity of the internets. Why is it okay to eliminate gore but not the rest? it’s obviously debatable, but gore’s main theme/concept is gore, not sex. sex is a secondary element in that case. where as the others mentioned sex is the primary concept, with the taboo things being the secondary elements. and sex is the central-heart of r34. For that simple but obvious reason, drop gore, because its the odd man out that doesn’t really belong. i’m sure a poll vote-out would be conclusive. besides, surely those ‘mentally balanced citizens’ have enough of their own Gore-only sites. so it doesn’t need to be mixed in here. to further the argument, i’ve seen loads of beautiful very talented art/artists involving and often specializing in all the aforementioned, with exception to gore, which i’ve never seen anything above average skill wise.
if you want to help save some space and less traffic – eliminate the gore and start harsher bans against those who solely just bitch and troll to start fires and never offer gratitude anywhere(sans the aggressively sarcastic and numerous goofballs of course), if they hate here so much then they don’t need to be here?. it won’t be a ton in either case but it will help enough (especially as capacity becomes more precious as the site continues to steadily grow)
what really truly makes this site great its its unique diverse mixture of strange and wonderful pics; either (1)artfully talented & sexy or (2)humorously inappropriate, and our pretty much (3)free rein to make stupid comments all in fun (which for whatever reason too many people seem to get bent all over about, made all the more unbelievable if they looked around to where they were, but either way accounts for the majority of the DNP list;those sensitive twats. and on that note, can’t we try adding a disclaimer to the artists stating not to take comments so seriously and just ignore them, since 99% are just goofing around).

I do have to say though that I disagree with your comment about taking out Gore from the site. I can’t say that I personally care for most gore. A lot of it’s quite tasteless. YAY! After over a week the site is back up! There’s a little trouble with the thumbnails in the gallery, but the main pictures are still working! I’m sure you guys will get the rest in working order in no time!

I Strongly suggest a Non34 Tag Checking System!!!
Somewhat similar to the one on HF but Should be placed under the Character/Show/Game etc… name tag! You know when you search or click or search a tag, it’ll appear in that white search/text box on the right side of the Images.

[x]Signifies a checked box for those who’re a bit slow. Any other necessary attributes can be added, I just put those ones because those are the most commonly debated content. I wuold also like to propose an Censored & Uncensored Check. But since each pic has a different style of censorship (Altered amounts of pixels; Bars that are scaled unaliked and what portion of the area that is censored; and artists that use items and methods of censoring private bits etc) I was like, naaaaah.
Well, that’s my preference envision on this situation. Dunno if you guys wanna consider it, and if so can y’all execute it? This might take some time to do tho, with all the additional labeling of images and stuff. But then again I don’ rly know hwo y’all gonna do it tho,

And of course I’m not having the same problems getting pages to load that I always have when browsing Rule 34. Too many people on and I’m always one of them that’s kind of booted rather than having my page load.
Going to be awhile before I can browse and hunt down that pic I want.

It’s back up, but the rule34.paheal.net/post/list page links to blog.paheal.net/post/list, which is a 404. Everything else works fine – in fact, better than usual with so many people being tricked by the bad page.
